SweMaint shows its true muscle

Following Malmö-based Kockums Industrier’s acquisition of state-owned SweMaint AB in 2007, the new owners were keen on quickly communicating the strategic concept and industrial logic of the acquisition.

SweMaint was given the tag line Maintaining your railway logistics as an analogy of Kockums Industrier’s own tag line, Railway logistics since 1859. The acquisition resulted in an offering including both production and maintenance. This marked another crucial step towards a respectful approach to resource utilisation and thus a more sustainable future.

The prestigious Kockums Industrier AB is now a holding company that, in addition to owning SweMaint AB and overseeing the Group’s overall finances, manages all blueprints and patent documents from its earlier manufacturing operations.

Ever since it was acquired by Kockums Industrier, SweMaint, an industrial company founded in 1905 with a history nearly equalling its owners, has had a bold mission to create, maintain and advance competitive advantages for rail over fossil-based road logistics.

SweMaint was originally founded as “Statens Järnvägars Maskin och Teknikdivision” 46 years after Frans Henrik Kockum started manufacturing rail wagons in Malmö. What is currently SweMaint thus has its roots in a network of workshops that Swedish State Railways (SJ) established in the mid-19th century.

As a result, most of the company’s current workshops have played a considerable role in the development of the Swedish rail industry and have had great significance as infrastructure in all of Sweden’s geographic regions.

The linear progression of our history from 1859 and 1905 to 2007 and now 2020 makes it only natural that we are now rebranding to SweMaint – a Kockums Industrier company.
