– From 1 June 2025, locomotive maintenance will also be part of SweMaint’s regular service offering
SweMaint is a Nordic leader in rail freight wagon repair and maintenance services. With its own workshops in twelve locations from Malmö in the south to Kiruna in the north, it meets the needs of rail freight operators at strategically important hubs.
Through Kockums Industrier’s strategic acquisition of Midwaggon in 2023, the subsidiary SweMaint also added maintenance of electric locomotives to an already well-known competent service offering for rail freight transport.
When Locomotive becomes a separate business area as of 1 June 2025 and is added organisationally to the company’s existing range consisting of the areas of Wagon Maintenance, Wheel Maintenance, Wheel Pool, Clearing/Salvage and Material Supply, the Group's basic idea from 2007 of industrial logic and breadth will also become 100% reality.
The organisation, whose viability has been tested since February 2023 and implemented in parallel with the new business system, designed to maximise customer benefit and better exploit synergies, is thus now formally in place. The overall objective is to further broaden and strengthen customer engagement with existing clients and to approach new ones in the same way.
– With a new business system and with Locomotive as a separate business area, we are further refining our service offering and customer focus – something that benefits rail freight, its competitiveness against the fossil lobby and the future of the railway,’ says Peter Overup, CEO, SweMaint.
