Who's going to work in the industrial sector tomorrow?

The future of the industrial sector is in the spotlight at “Industrinatten”. This event will bring in over 1,000 young people to MalmöMässan this year, where 35 companies will be set to inform them about what they do, attract them with what they can offer, and invite them to visit their companies.

Industrinatten will be held on 10 October with a kick-off and introduction in the exhibition halls followed by visits to the exhibitor companies. The first Industrinatten was organised on the initiative of IUC Syd, Region Skåne, and the City of Malmö in 2014. The event has been held annually ever since with great involvement and support from the 11 municipalities of the Malmö-Lund region, unions, banks and the Swedish Public Employment Service (Arbetsförmedlingen).

What is the purpose of Industrinatten?

Meeting future skills needs is one of the biggest challenges for Swedish industry. Getting young people to become more interested in a future career in the industrial sector and in industrial education and training is thus crucial for growth and competitiveness. Industrinatten enables young people to visit various industrial companies where they can be shown the variety of professions and career paths on offer as well as ask the employees questions.

“We can’t afford to leave young people behind, especially girls. We need to get them in here so that they can see for themselves what it’s like to work for us. They want more experience, they want new opportunities, and they don’t want to be bored – and they won’t be with us,” says Kerstin Lindh, Auto Workshop Supervisor at Bilia in Malmö.

And Fredrik Gordon, CEO of Svarmekano in Malmö, continues:

“We want to inspire curiosity for the industrial sector and erase the preconception that you are just stuck standing next to a machine all day. Automation and robots have made it possible for employees to develop and take on new, often more advanced tasks. The opportunities for development here are endless.”

“The SweMaint Malmö Wagon Workshop did not hesitate for a second about participating in Industrinatten 2018 – a welcome opportunity to meet and attract future employees and a key step in our efforts to build an attractive brand,” concludes SweMaint HR Manager Paul Søndergaard.
